Last year the leaves on one of my blackcurrant bushes failed to open; definitely no sign of big bud. They were still at the same stage when another bush of the same variety started to flower. At this point I decided to spray it with bug spray, and within a week the buds did start opening. It eventually flowered and produced a reasonable crop, but very late indeed. Does anyone know what could have caused this? Also, and more importantly, when should I spray them this year? I suspect the culpruit could still be around!
