I have been growing a plum tree from seed and I'm not sure if it is growing correctly.

Do I need to prune this tree as the main stem is thin and it seems to be growing longer without any branches above the first 5

I think it will branch out in time. If you do decide to prune it needs to be when it is in leaf.

In June I would cut the top 15cm off which should help it break some of the buds higher up. Wait and see what happens over the next year before pruning any further.

You really have many years to wait before it produces fruit, if any. And those it does produce will likely be rather poor. But who knows ......!
