Sorry if this seems a stupid question. OH is growing melons for the first time and is wondering if there is an obvious difference between male and female flowers and do they have be from different plants

The female flower has an 'obvious' immature melon behind it. There always seems to be a propensity of male flowers before the female flowers start forming! (at least on mine there always are!)

Easy way to tell gender is look at the stem. The male has a long thin stem, whereas the female plant has a pseudo-fruit on it."I got a business card, 'cause I want to win some lunches. That's what my business card says: "Mitch Hedberg, potential lunch winner."
