Train canes in alternative directions and this will make for easier picking and give an open centre.
Mine are planted similarily to VC's at the mo but are a pain in the butt to pick the back rasps.

Look away all you keen DIYers, this is my way of doing things
Nursey, all you need is a hammer and a few long sticks of wood or metal poles.
Put sticks at each end of the intended row and wallop them with a hammer. Putting a flat bit of wood on the top of the stick, and hammering onto that, will protect the end of the stick and stop it from splitting. Wear gloves
Tie bits of wire/string/whatever to the sticks and plant raspberries alongside, tying off each cane to the wire/string.
All done - go and have a cuppa.
