  • Need Help with Dwarf Cherry Tree

    Hello

I have a dwaft cherry tree thats now in its third year ofm being planted in the garden. Last year it did really well.

It is now April 6th in th UK and the tree has only got a couple of buds on a lower branch and the rest looks dead.

I did notice that the scion (I Think) seems to have been buried under the soil. I dug it out and noticed a white patch on it. I have attached some pics.

Could this be a problem and if so can it be fixed or do I just need to wait a bit longer for it to come out of dormacy.

No experience of growing cherries myself and I don't know where in the UK you are, but I was at my inlaws yesterday and I'd say his cherry was about the same stage as yours. They live near the South Downs. If you scrape away a little bark you can tell whether it is alive or not. If it is brown, it's dead and green is alive.

your cherry tree looks fine that white spot looks like some sort of fungus or the bark has been scraped of i would not worry to much about that it looks healthy my small cherry which is 6 years old sunburst looks like it will flower by the 20th of the month its always between 20th-24th every year a few years ago i near lost it to bacterial canker but managed to save it by hard pruning to there was very little of it left and hard spraying to stop bacterial canker from starting again which i do every year now and its doing great now.i recommend you spray your tree three times a year september, october and february with Bordeaux Mixture its good stuff and works.if by june there is dead wood cut of all the dead stuff paint the wounds with heal and seal and spray as i suggested above and it should survive

        Hi there,
I don't know much about fruit trees but have found this which, although relates to peach tree sounds like a similar problem?

What problems can result if a peach tree is planted too deep? : Extension : Clemson University : South Carolina

Your tree looks like most of the growth is dead...scrape the bark as Wendy suggests, it may be rescueable in part...bit hard to tell from the piccies. Your buds on the live bit are ahead of mine !
