Plum tree

My friend rescued a plum tree from a skip at Dobbies last year.She says the main stem has died but there are 3 branches growing from the bottom.Will these be from the rootstock?What can she expect?

Are they below the graft?

I have similar thing going on. Though on one I purchased. The main stem has died and two offshoots are living and currently shooting. Be interested to hear responses also

I haven't seen the tree but think the offshoots are below the graft.

If they are shoots coming from the rootstock , you could grow the tree on this year and graft on a plum variety next feb/march -maybe a different variety onto each of the two shoots. I've found varieties like Victoria, Czars and Warwickshire Drooper graft very easily onto ST Julian A rootstock.
