summer raspberry canes, dead or lazy?

Woo hoo, a couple of the canes look as though they are waking up from their winter slumber...fingers crossed!

I've spotted a couple of teeny tiny leaf buds on most so they're coming on slowly! Feeling happier now I know they're not totally dead haha

My Autumn raspberries (polka, fruited the first year I put them in and a heavy crop ever since!) have sprung into life in the past couple of weeks. We've had lots of lovely warm weather in April here in Bedfordshire, but I've also mulched the shallow roots with some grass clippings to help keep them toasty and moist (we're right near the GreenSand Ridge and our soil is VERY well draining!). It seems to have helped a lot and will keep the weeds off in the next few months too!
