Can't see much detail - sorry.
    Some sort of rubus.
    Does it have thorns?
    Any flower buds yet?
    Is it sprawling or bushy?
Do the leaves smell of anything when rubbed?

Are the leaves/ buds coming off an upright stem or is the stem more flexible. Are there any thorn/ prickles? My first thought was bramble or blackberry but now I think raspberry.

I can't tell what anything is unless it's the right way up. Looks like a rasp to me.

Sorry the pic is not that good! There are lots of stems coming up from ground level with buds all the way up the stem (much like a raspberry). I thought it might be some kind of raspberry but the leaves have kind of black edges which I haven't seen before on a raspberry. And it has no thorns.

I will do the smell test next time I am at the allotment and report back!

Are there new stems and last year's dead ones?
            How tall are the stems?

                    I'm just wondering...

Is your plot fairly new to you ?
If this is an inherited plant with the plot, then it might be worth asking some of the nearby plot holders if they can remember what fruit it gad growing on it.
Most plot holders can't help but have a nosey, and if offered, a taste of other peeps produce!

My thoughts would also be some type of red berry of the raspberry shape!

Hi Nicos, yes we had a half plot and our neighbour gave his up and we were offered the full plot. This is growing on the new half. I didn't see this before as it was in between a shed and a compost bin, but I moved the shed when I got the plot... Good idea to ask around up there, someone may know what it is. If not I will just wait to see what it does...
