  • Less common fruits on the High Street.

Since I started this thread I've also seen Aronias and Honeyberries in Wilkos. This is the first year I've noticed anything new / less common apart from Gojiberries in supermarkets/Wilkos. I wonder what they'll be offering next? Will Oca, Mashua and Yacon appear nextvto the seed potatoes?

    -------

I've noticed that recently supermarkets seem to be getting into Aronias. Last summer Tesco were selling little punnets of the fruit, and this spring my local Morrisons is selling young Aronia 'Viking' plants. Viking is supposed to produce heavy yields of the 'chokeberries', and they're are selling it as a 'fruit tree'. If anyone is interested, the plants only cost £2.

Warning though: despite the attempt at rebranding, they're called chokeberries for a reason. They're very astringent raw and need cooking to be eaten in bulk. Think blackcurrants only stronger and drier.
