  • peach tree has fruit

i can't believe it my peach tree for the first time flowered this year so i bought into the greenhouse to protect it from the wind and rain.
i have hand pollinated the flowers and i have loads of little fruit forming on my tree.
    i am so pleased.
i put chicken pellets into the soil early on this year, when do i start to feed the tree and how do i make sure the fruit sets. i know i have to pick some of the fruit off as i have loads on there.

I just give my peach (a red haven from aldi) tub (half dustbin) a small handful of BFB in march each year and that's it for the last 3/4 yrs, you wont believe the taste of your own fruit compared to shop bought...I will get my first apricots this year after 3 yrs of training so that's going to be good.. I potted up a seedling cross of my greengage and Victoria plum and this year it is covered in blossom, approx. 200 on a 5ft tall standard so I am waiting to see what they taste like, and they forecast a great summer(or is that just London?) so I hope they have it right this time...

Try & find a high potassium feed, such as any tomato feed
Start using it now it's fruiting....

Nice one Rita. Like you say, when they start getting established, remove fruit so there is around 5"-6" space between fruits.

I love this forum! I was just coming on to ask how many to leave on my dwarf peach tree. It's only about 24" tall and has a good collection of fruit so far so how many should I leave on if I have to decide. (I'll probably look now and they will all have fallen off.)

What you may be able to do is let the fruits swell & if it looks like they may touch then remove one to reduce bruising & go from there.

Remember to try and select the fruits that get the best of the sun

Is that the rule then? No touching? For how long during the growing season -in pics I've seen of the dwarf trees the full sized fruit are touching but only just.

I would imagine because the flesh is so soft, it will bruise easier than say an apple.
