  • My Victoria Plum tree keeps dying

    Hi,

For the last 2 years or so, my Victoria plum tree does not produce any fruit. It does flower but then after a short while the tree proceeds to die.

I'm not sure what to do, i prune the tree yearly but still no fruit grows.

What can I do help the fruit to grow?

The pictures attached are recent photos of the tree.

All of my other fruit trees are managing to grow fine too.

I don't know its proper name but there's a little aphid-like insect which attacks plum blossom, with the damage resembling frost damage. It might also be causing the crinkled leaves.

In the last pic it looks like there is a fruit, just the one. Or is it a deceptive curled leaf?

The curled leaves do look like an aphid problem. I've been checking my Victoria plum regularly,I saw ants a week ago on the ground, nothing on the tree, today I found a few ants on the tree & under a few of the leaves, lots of green aphid nymphs (the same colour as the leaf so tricky to spot). I just squashed them all & put an ant bait trap down. Saw a few whiteflies around my apple tree too (now squashed) & spittlebugs (squashed) It's a daily battle, but it's good to get them before they breed everywhere.
