  • Repot or not...?

    Hi folks,

We bought our first ever apple tree at the weekend (dwarf rootstock family tree with James Grieve / Elstar varieties), which is in full bloom at the moment.

Should I repot this now (during transit, the plastic pot slid off and it appears pot bound), or should I wait until later in the year? My plan is to put it into a 40cm pot which will be it's permanent home, so that I can move it if needs be.

    All advice appreciated

Yes, I'd pot it up now and give it a good water. However, if it were mine, I would try to disturb the root ball as little as possible during this operation (i.e. try to maintain the existing contact between roots and soil, rather than pull the roots out of the root ball). Others might disagree though.

Is there any reason why it can't go straight into the 40cm pot?

I was worried that I might lose my chance of fruit Wendy.

I have moved other fruits when in bloom and it has had a detrimental affect, but am a total novice with apples
