  • Red Seeded Strawberry or is it a Pineberry?

    Hello,

I am looking for help identifying two strawberry plants I have. I have what I think are strawberries, but they do not appear to be ripening, they have red seeds whereas all my other strawberries (Elsanta, Hapil, Cambridge Favourite) have green seeds.

These two plants are in a trough of four plants that were forgotten about, left outside and neglected over winter. I was amazed to fine plants growing in them in earlier in the year so moved the trough into the greenhouse. I think the two are Cambridge Favourite as they are labelled as such and initially I assumed all four would be Cambridge Favourite. When my husband cleared out the greenhouse before winter I was sure he threw out the two Pineberry plants I tried but had no success with last year.

Now I am wondering if he dumped them into the outdoor trough with the Cambridge Favourites as these two strawberry plants fruit have red seeds and all of the other strawberries I have have green seeds.

What do you think? Are they strawberries (if so any suggestions as to what variety?) or pineberries?

    Thank you in advance.

    Jen.

Sounds like Pineberries if they look like this:

      Hi Bigmallly,

Thank you, looking at the picture the red seeds look just like those on the pineberries. Quite excited as it looks like I will have a few pineberries this summer!
