Strawberries in the greenhouse!

I've just seen Simon off our allotments picking strawberries. He has been for a couple of weeks from plants in his greenhouse!

What a good idea! I think I'll be doing that next year!

I've had loads of strawberries from my polytunnel over the last few weeks. I dug them up from my strawberry bed in september and overwintered them in hanging baskets in there.
Now that they've nearly finished, the outdoor strawberries are coming into their own

How many do you have per basket, assuming one would be best but can't tell on your photos.

I've got two or three in each basket and they've been quite happy.

How deep are the baskets as I've just given 30 away that look like them as was told the weren't deep enough at around 6"deep.

I have my tunnel strawberries in 8" pots. They come in at the end of November if there has bee frosts or end of December if not. They started cropping at about the end of April and are basically just about finished now. They get thrown outside and then I bring in another lot in pots which have basically set lots and lots of fruit which is still green. They are ripening up quickly now and supplementing the out side ones that are coming on line.

I like them in pots because I can move them around as I change the cropping in the beds. I can also hang bread baskets of the crop bars. I did have some ever bearers in baskets a couple of years ago but wasn't impressed with the plants. If I had crop bars that ran the length of the tunnel I think I'd consider them again. I used to lift the baskets down and put them in buckets of water to soak them properly, otherwise I did think they weren't quite good enough.

Probably no more than 6" deep. The baskets I use are from Poundland, but after the plants have finished cropping - which they should any day now, I plant them outside to give them a chance to produce runners for next years plants.

Couple of pics - most of the pots are on the ground between the tomatoes at the mo. The strawberries are there just hiding!
