  • New black grape vine, berries seem to be shrivelling?

I have just bought a new grape vine, when I bought it, the bunches of grapes looked nice fat and swollen, it was quite late when I got back home so I left it in the garden in its pot until the next afternoon. But when I went to plant it next to my others, I've noticed the grapes seem to be wrinkling/deflating slightly. I've checked the leaves and berries but there's no mould etc. could it be a lack of water whilst it was in the garden? I can't imagine it being something like a disease affecting it over night?
I'm really miffed. My other vines are fine.

It's very early for grapes...what variety is it, how big is it - if it has got fruit I presume it's been kept indoors? Where abouts are you? We have had some chilly nights so that may be the problem. A photo would help, it's a difficult to know what's happened without a photo.

well I bought them from a garden centre so I asse they've been outdoors but I don't know. The nights here have been quite hot, hence why my orange tree has stayed outside. It's a marechal Foch. They're harvested about July. It's about 2 ft high.

        Grape

Also yes, it has quite a few bunches. I pruned off a few the day I got it but as the fruit is quite well set I thought anymore pruning might do it harm?

I can't really see the leaves but the one that is in the photo looks healthy enough, my first guess would be lack of water as you've already said. Where are you? How many bunches have you kept on the plant? As its young and they are shrivelled perhaps you could reduce them down some more.

Wahoo! Just gone outside the garden and the bunches are back to being big fat and juicy. Phew!
Originally when I bought the vine it had around 4-5 big bunches and 3 very small bunches ie 4-5 grapes, so I chopped off the 3 tiny bunches and one big one.
After reading your post yesterday I thought, stuff it I'll chop of two big bunches and some dead leaves, give it a good water and hey ho, back to normal. So either there wasn't enough energy being produced for all the grapes or it was dehydrated, whatever the reason it's all solved now.
