Apples apples apples

Hi all, I've got a question I have registered here just in the hope some of you might be able to help with.

In my garden I have three big apple trees. They look like three different varieties. The largest tree is taller than the bungalow behind us and every year produces a ton of green apples. they always stay green. My question is what variety it might be? I took a picture in the hope somebody can identify it and then I might know what better to do with the apples. I'm not convinced they are eaters, they are a little sour but not so sour that I'd class them as cooking apples.

Last year I put them into a box at the end of the drive and invited people to help themselves. This got rid of most, but if I know the variety maybe I might put them to better use.

I can't see your photo
Its very difficult to identify an apple from a single photo but if you can post some more of the fruit, leaves and the tree itself it may help to narrow it down.

I dont know the names of some of my trees but they are a little tart to eat fresh. I cook them all and use in chutneys, jams, sauce and prepared and frozen ready for fruit pies and crumbles. Unfortunately I'm not very successful at homemade wine.

Post lots of pics as VC says. You may not get the variety but you will get a wealth of info. There are so many varieties and all have their own traits, look for even the slightest changes. I have a large unknown eater that will store for months, however if left on the tree to their ripest point they soon go over. If not picked ripe they are on the sour side and it is hard to get the timing right.

Edit: Where abouts are you? apple days will be happening Sept/Oct there might be one near you.
