  • strawberries from seed

Hi all was wondering if anyone had any advice on if strawberries 🍓 and raspberries are easy to grow from seed and when is the best time to start. Thank you.

We tried to grow strawberries from seeds twice this year with no success!
It's easier just to buy some plant and take runners off the plant after they have finished producing fruit.

Don't know about raspberries but have grown alpine strawberries from seed sown in February and they've fruited the same year. However for normal strawberries it's easier to get runners, if you know anybody with plants at this time of year they'll be producing liars which equals free plants . Raspberries also produce suckers which can be dug up and moved, ask around, you may hit gold.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thank you both. I dont know anyone with a raspberry bush . I have a few strawberry plants that I found on my allotment, but they were not very healthy and don't seem to have any runners.

If you put raspberries in an allotment they will spread by underground runners. And spread everywhere.

If you buy any then I suggest Autumn fruiting ones, Joan J for example. THey are just easier to manage as you only really have one years set of canes to think of.

Add a location to your profile, someone on here may be close but at present would never know.

Thanks for this - I got some seeds with the GYO magazine months ago, which I totally forgot about.

Just need to try and find them now.
