What new fruits are people trying next year?

Gooseberries did well this year and tried Inca berries for the first time this year. They fruited well in the greenhouse but the flavour was not popular with the kids so probably won't grow them again. They enjoyed the cucamelons last year though so may go with them again.

Would also like to try tomatillo for next year. Anyone tell me what they taste like?

Inca berries are James Wong's fancy name for cape gooseberries as far as I know. Depending on which ones you grow they have slightly different flavours- the dwarf ones are sweeter and more honeyed than the giant ones.

I think it is more a texture than a flavour

I think they taste pineappley/limey. I like them and have been growing them for years as perennials in the GH.
To me, they're Physalis - at a push Cape Gooseberries. I refuse to call them Inca berries just because James Wong thinks its a catchier name.

I grew them last year and I found the longer you left them the sweeter they were x

I'm trying 'Northline', a variety of amelanchier / saskatoon selected for large fruit, 'Emerald Carpet', a low growing rubus variety, myrtus ugni (unlikely to succeed outside the greenhouse but you never know), plus more of the same - a Cockle Pippin apple and a Beurre Sterckmanns pear.

I'm most interested to see whether it's possible to have an amelanchier that's worth it as a fruit tree, or whether even the varieties selected fof fruit are a waste of time.

Don't get me started on James Wong, he irritates me no end. I agree Sparrow, after trying several types, I found the dwarf type called sweet pineapple the best. It makes the most beautiful jam that is the nearest thing to honey I've ever tasted.

I've bought a blackcurrant bush to try for the first time - variety is Ben Sarek which is supposed to be compact. I am intending to attempt to train it into a double or triple cordon, having done this successfully with a white currant. The only issue may be that it will have to live against a north facing wall, which it might not like.

I bought a few blueberry plants about 3 year ago only had about 6 berries and tht was this year, ive put them in a container with acidic soil this year so hopefully Inget a few more berries this year.
