Fruit orchard increase!

Well, just got back from the garden center with my purchases. 1 Conference pear tree, 1 Granny Smith apple tree and a Goldtraube blueberry bush (complete with large new pot and ericaceous compost). These will go with my other recent purchases of a Bing Cherry tree, lemon and orange trees. With all the other fruit that grows on our land I will be able to set up a market stall soon! Black and green figs, apricots, peaches, grapes, sloes, crab-apples, bramleys, blackberries, gooseberries, nisperos (kumquats) I LOVE GARDENING!

Just a quick question though- how will they fair with your heat and rainfall?
Only asking cos I'm wary of trying out UK varieties and I don't get as extreme weather as you do....do you have to irrigate or anything???

Heat?!?!?! Yup, RAINFALL?!?!?!?! NOPE! Granny's and Conference grow out here - we can also buy them loose in the supermarkets. Yes I irrigate when necessary. The lemon and cherry trees that I planted a few weeks ago are flooded once per week at the mo as no rain

You might find you need to get another variety of Blueberry bush for pollination. A single variety can produce fruit, but chances of a decent yield is greatly enhanced by having two varieties.

Thank you - I have read about that, will be looking out for another variety. The center only had one plant in stock

BIS, you will have to carry on watering once a week for the next year maybe 2, it takes a long time to get them going. They just won't set any fruit. I planted my lemons, oranges and limes 18months ago and still water every 10 days. My Spanish friends say unless it rains you should always water every 7-10 days.

What a wonderful day for planting fruit trees. Apple and pear trees are in the new homes, and other fruit trees have been weeded etc.,
