As it reads you have a plum tree, so either it is what to do with it or it has a "problem".
If the question concerns pruning/training do not prune it at present, they are prone to virus's at this time of year owing to the cold and damp.

Whatever else we will need to know variety and if possible put a general location in your profile. Just helps as there is a fair amount of difference across the UK. Saves people guessing.
