Well.. You may say this serves me right for buying into it...literally.
However. I tried my 3 nearest garden centres for Cape gooseberry seeds. Got some last year no bother. This year none to be had ..that is until I was in desperation lured into buying James Wong seeds. Last year I compared his seeds under Suttons name to to what I'm sure were also Suttons standard pack and many more seeds. Now I know we all moan about too many seeds in a pack for too much money. But for the privilege of having
James Wongs picture on the fancy packet along with some unecessary blurb in the form of a recipe I paid £2.49 for 11 seeds !! not much wiggle room for poor germination either. I'm sure last year even there were more seeds in the packet. They are nothing special and easy to grow by his own admission. I only bought these as it takes a long time for them to germinate grow and fruit so I needed really to have started in Feb. Plus any more car journeys further afield just for these seeds would make cost a nonsense. I could stomach a few more pence for a "face" endorsement on an item bit this is daylight robbery. I'm afraid the likes of Sarah Raven are much the same. So whilst in this instance I just wanted to get the seeds in I shan't be putting more pounds into so called celebrity( gross word at the best of times ) coffers. Oh and to add insult to injury Mr Wongs seeds are not called Cape Gooseberry....oh no, they are INCA BERRIES! Pretentious Moi?
