  • Raspberry bush!

Following on from jenjen's thread, I was in my local nursery today and happened across one of these
Raspberry 'Ruby Beauty'® (Summer Fruiting) - Thompson & Morgan Offers - Thompson & Morgan

( it was cheaper in the nursery, £12) so I bought one just to try.
It is definitely a bush rather than a cane, with one stem that branches a few inches up from ground level.

Apparently this little bush will produce 1.5k of fruit....we'll see.
Has anyone got any experience of these?
For the same money I could of got ten canes of malling jewel with 2 quid leftover

As it appears to be a summer fruiting variety from the description I wish you the best of luck with the pruning out of old canes . Not sure how you will identify new, one year old and older "canes" from within that growth

I wonder if they are divisible so you can double your plants each year?

Just take out the ones that have fruited, don't see that as a particular problem although not sure how it works as a bush in general terms

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

There are no canes, its a bushy little bush!

My husband promises to take a photo and upload it so you can see, he's off work tonight so I'll ask him again tomorrow when he's had some sleep.
But as Alison says, as you pick the fruit you prune the twigs it came from.

I have decided to give this one to my mum in a nice big pot.
I think it is perfect for her as she spends alot of time doing gentle pottering in her postage stamp garden, deadheading with a cup of tea in one hand and feeding her two magpies (that always return to nest in the tree opposite and are very close to taking food from her hand).
