I've only ever taken cuttings from blackcurrants in late June when pruning. Stuck in water with most of the leaves removed they are rooted by August and robust enough to sit outside all winter without dying.

At least one of the white currant cuttings I took is showing green shoots so these should be ok, think Ive also got some Mara de Bois runners from where they've tried to take over the world

I have rooted cuttings of Baldwin blackcurrants and I'll take some fresh cuttings of Josta and Worcesterberries which root easily in water. The Worcesterberries are very spiky, like gooseberries so handle with care - and thick gloves

Don't squeeze your packets and be very, very careful when you go to take the bubble wrap bit out. It has the Worcester berries and gooseberries in. The worcesterberries will bite through every thing. Morticia would be proud of those thorns
