  • containers.

Evening all..i will be planting my new apple tree this weekend (weather permitting) I've yet to buy a container to put it in but what really is the difference between the cheap ones & expensive ones?

I'm talking about i can go to a b&m and pick up a large container for £3 or go to a garden centre and pay £15 for the same size container. (both plastic) i mean they will both do the same job won't they?

or is it worth investing in a terracotta container but then your talking around £30.
does it make any difference to the tree?

    Steve.

There are some differences. Terracotta is porous so plants will need more watering. It also looks better, I think, and as it is heavy, helps to stop plants being blown over. Some plastics can get brittle in the sun. In the end it's up to you!

If you want it short term stick with plastic, if you want permanent look into terracotta, but you will need a big pot
Plastic- grow on for a year then plant out
      Terracotta- get a big pot

I dont really think there is any difference, I have my apple tree in a black plastic container, they heat up quicker but do need watering more. Tree seems happy like
If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it.

You can also pay about £15 for an 'Air Pot' which claim all sorts of benefits they are plastic but have an ingeneous system of root development. I'm trying some this year, don't think it will be an earth shattering difference but we will see.
