When to start putting lemon tree outside?

When is the time to put a container grown lemon outside? I've read somewhere that you switch from winter to summer citrus food at the spring equinox, but I've not been able to find info on when the tree should go outside. I assume it needs to be a bit later than the Equinox, is it just when the night time min temp is consistently above 5c?

Also, will the lemon need to be hardened off for a week, or does it just go straight outside?

You're probably find in he day now, especially as you're so far south. Always best to do it gradually though depending on the weather. Nothing likes a shock.
