  • Dwarf Stem Fruit Trees

    Hello all

Has anyone had any experience with dwarf stem fruit trees?

I am wondering if they fruit well and how long it will be before they fruit. I have a small patio area as a garden, so space is limited, but I still want to do something.

I see these as my only option for fruit trees in all reality. There is a pack of five trees from Thompson and Morgan on sale and these seem to be a good deal.

If it is unlikely that these won't fruit, what are my other options for a small space patio garden?

There is a guy on here called TrixC, he posted pic of 2 trees he just bought, excellent trees which will blossom this spring, unlike mine when I bought them they were mere twigs. Ask him where he bought them? Ideal world were selling them and they guaranteed them to fruit this year! but it was a one off deal.

I love my patio fruit trees, have just grafted onto my patio Gala, a discovery and 2 Egremont Russets

They should fruit well if you treat them well - nice big pots, decent soil (JI#3) and don't let them dry out.
I've 3 patio trees, one fruits well, the other 2 are still a little young and didn't last year.

I picked up my dwarf apricot as a bareroot from the "range" store at a cost of £6, 3-4yrs ago and they seem to have a few each year, it is now trained to shape and fruiting well in a 50ltr tub of (JI#3) and given some shelter from the constant rain, looks happy in its spot, and they taste amazing, and this is Scotland I am talking about. I also have a red haven peach in a tub, but not a dwarf, I will lift it out after the leaves have fallen in the autumn and trim some of the big roots, (same as bonsai) so I get branches growing not big boughs, I get between 20-30 fruit off it on a reasonable year (when the sun comes out) so just try it and enjoy....

Could you plant some fruit trees on the allotment you were taking on with your daughter?
