    Hi all,

Thinking about planting some strawberries (they are my favourite fruit!)

Is it too late to buy plants?

    I don’t have a greenhouse, is that a problem?

How much of a crop will in get with one of these?

How many plants will I need for that pot?

Or does the forum recommend another type of planter?

No it's not too late to buy plants, but you might find that they will fruit better next year when they're established
No greenhouse - not a problem, but sunny is good
No idea on how much you'll get from that planter - I have used similar ones in the past and not got a lot from them, but that may be down to the British 'summers' rather than the planter
One plant per planting 'bubble' - it looks like four on each level, so 12?

    Good luck!

Thanks Sarriss, what would be better to plant them in? I would prefer something a little more attractive than a grow bag!

It says 9 plants in the link,it's quite small 38cm tall. Nice as a table centrepiece for herbs & strawberries. If you like strawberries a lot,do you have space to plant some in the ground, where they can spread their runners & produce more plants without you having to pot them up & plant them? I started my strawberry growing using pots but I found they do better in the ground, maybe because less care is needed,I don't know?

I use window boxes, but I would prefer the ground to be honest... I just don't have the space I use those kind of boxes for herbs that like a dry environment - I'm not the best at watering lol

Hi all, the planting direct into the ground is out at the moment, we will be having our garden done, but don’t know when...So pots or something similar.

Maybe one of these will be better?:-

              Hi all,

Looking for varieties of strawberries. I intend to plant one square metre bed just with strawberries, so 9 squares. The square metre gardening book recommends 4 plants per square, so 36 in the bed.

              I am thinking of planting
              · 8 x early
              · 8 x mid
              · 8 x late
              · 12 x perpetual

What varieties of each are recommended?

              Any tips or advice?
