    Good point! When you dig the hole put a handful of bonemeal down there to give the plant a good root growth stimulant.

      I've heard the complete opposite. Heavily fertilising the planting hole in the root zone of another tree just encourages the roots of the established plant to move in and outcompete the new plant. I haven't done any controlled tests though to check which is better, fertilising on planting or not.
