  • Protecting Strawberries

I have been told that if I use chicken wire netting to protect my strawberries, they will not fruit. Is this a fact or an old wives tale?

My lottie neighbour protects hers with chicken.

She collects a washing up bowl full of strawberries every two days in the summer!

Are you sure they actually said "wire" - I can imagine using chickens would result in no crop.

Unless the holes in the wire are too small for the bees - in which case you either have fat bees or tiny chickens.

Any netting just needs to have holes big enough to allow bees in to pollinate. Don't see how metal would make a difference over plastic.
