  • Can I grow a Kiwi Plant in a pot?

    Hey folks,

I bought a 'Jenny' Kiwi plant this morning from a local garden centre. The instructions only say for it to be in the sun and to support it with a trellis.

Can I put it in a pot or should I put it in the earth? What kind of soil conditions does it need? Does it need to be inside (greenhouse/ conservatory)?

Thank you so much for any help you're able to provide!

If you have any other advice I'd really appreciate it x

I would say that if you don't have the space / time to manage the vine try it out in a big pot - not a flower bucket but a big one. Whether it works or not you will be contributing to the knowledge on the vine.

It'll also give you a bit of breathing space to find somewhere to plant it if it doesn't work - or decide to scrap it if you think that is best.

Of course in a pot you are going to have to water and feed it like billyo. You may even have to figure out how to do the occasional root pruning / repoting of a plant with a mature vine system.

Basically my thoughts are as you now already have it give it a go! Trying and failing is far far better than never trying at all.

I agree with Jay-ell - go for it I bought a mini kiwi the other week, and put it in the biggest pot I had. When it grows out of that, I'll get a bigger one, but that'll be it.
