What is causing this on my gooseberry bush ?

This pattern of small holes causing leaf distortion happens to quite a few different plants in my garden like broad beans. This has now started on my gooseberry bushes. Although the plant is healthy with a lot of fruit forming I would like to know what this is so I can do something about it.

I'm not 100% certain but I wonder are these gooseberry mites. Maybe you could google these mites and try and see if it is them.

Aphids? Any insect eating the leaves will damage them and cause them to curl up.

The biggest pest problem with Goosegogs is Sawfly, they can strip a plant overnight, maybe a bit of netting may help.

But this isn't sawfly.

I agree it looks like a sap sucker, the top leaves appear to have had the chlorophyll sucked out. The culprits will most likely be found at some stage on the underside of the leaves. If you can't find them a last ditch stand may be to spray the plant (particularly under the leaves) with neem.

They have left small holes in the leaves too so can't be aphids. It happens to my broad beans too.

Your beans will probably be pea and bean weevil.

Is there any sig of anything other than the damage?
