Does anyone know how long do blackcurrant bushes usually take to fruit? The blackcurrant is currently in my greenhouse

The fruit grows on year old wood. Personally I would take it out of the greenhouse. They can grow to 4/5ft tall (mine are) and as wide. Waste of GH space imo, they fruit fine outdoors and are insect pollinated which may be a problem in the green house.

Took a pruning cutting winter before last and planted it in the ground, there are some fruit on it this summer. (which suggests 1 year old wood does fruit)
As Scarlet has suggested -- move it out the greenhouse--probably flowered but unpollinated.
Wait until dormant time to move--winter.

The year before last I bought a small blackcurrant bush. It looks very healthy (apart from a couple of caterpillars chomping at it)

When you say "small" is that £shop small?

I've never seen caterpillars on a blackcurrant bush?

I don't mean to sound rude or assume where you shop, but are you definitely sure it's a blackcurrant and not a flowering ribes? Some of the bargain shops are a bit slack with their labelling.

I took cuttings from Mum's blackcurrant last July. They rooted by August and are fruiting (a little) this year.

Yes, it is possible for a healthy plant not to produce fruit if it's not been pollinated.

I agree with scarlet that the most probable cause of no fruit is the plant has not been pollinated. How were the bees supposed to get to the plant in a greenhouse, and that's assuming the bees were about anyway, growing in a greenhouse it probably flowered too early for bees any way. Black Currants need to be outside.

Agree it needs to be outside as may be flowering to early if it is a blackcurrant. Will fruit on year old wood but best fruit on 2 - 3 year old wood.

Just wondering if it needs to be outside to cause it to flower, some plants need the cold of winter to kick them into action - not sure if blackcurrent is one of these, but for some odd rason I have a slight idea it might, only about 10% idea that it could.

Next it needs to be outside, simply doors may be open but bees are likely to go elsewhere, they do not generally invade the interior of a house so would not expect them to buzz off into a greenhouse too easily.

Finally are you sure it is a blackcurrent? There are a few plants that are in the same family and even if the shop bought them correctly labeled the labels can get moved - little children.

Have you just let it grow, or have you shaped it with a set of pruners each year to achieve a shape. If so you may have simply removed the flowering bits. I tend to take the view that if I have pruned anything that fruits on year old wood then I expect nothing the year afterwards. Means that if anything appears it is a bonus.

Because the doors and windows are open every day from 7am to 8pm to enable pollinators to pollinate..

I think if you have it indoors regardless of whether the doors are open you will probably need to hand pollinate. The bush will blossom early due to being kept under cover which won't help. I have a peach tree in mine and I hand pollinate that.
Plants that are in the "wrong" place are unlikely to flower either.

If you rub the leaves it will smell like a black currant if it is.
