    I have 15 Kentish cob nuts all present and accounted for at the moment on a second year bush the bush, its so small , they haven't been noticed yet
    how can I tell when they be ripe enough to pick

    As a general rule round here, when the flippin squirrels have eaten them

      My hazelnuts aren't ready yet.
      Once they start falling I collect them off the floor.
      In a few weeks we'll start to see green ( ie unripe) ones for sale in the shops.

      S'ppose it depends if you like them green?
      Do they look brown yet...my hazelnuts are still quite green.

        If they've swollen to the size you are happy with they can be picked & left to 'dry' in a basket on a sunny windowsill.
