For the last couple of years, I've not stopped mine, nor have I taken off the sideshoots (which is more debatable). The result seems to be slightly more fruit (not a lot) and a longer/later fruiting season. What I do though is to take of a lot of leaves to make sure they get as much sun as possible.

Choose different varieties and sizes. My latest tomato is usually either Summer Cider or Pink Brandywine (which are brandywine varieties) and I've had fruit from an unheated greenhouse in late November. The earliest I've grown is Bloody Butcher which I get fruit in mid-July.

I dont stop mine either unless the plant looks spent.
I take sideshoots/armpits to lenghten the growing season and it seems to work ok for me.

Just thought I'd add to this .... I have decided for first time to grow from seed.

        Shirley
        Juane Flamme
        Rosada
        Sun Gold

Not to sure when to start sowing seeds ... welcome any tips.
