I have a fruit cage containing raspberry canes (quite successful), and 2 gooseberry and 2 blackcurrant bushes (both producing nothing this year). Last year, the latter were mildly productive, and the previous year were quite good. I wonder what is the most likely cause - are there too many bushes in the caged area, has the soil gone "bad", or was it lack of water or feed (they were watered as often as the raspberries). Can I transplant them later in the autumn?

I would think that the raspberry roots, which spread at a fantastic rate, have hovered up all the nourishment that the soil contained, I buried a solid barrier 2ft deep around mine as they are right next to the veg patch, it needs to be that deep, having isolated them, start to feed the gooseberries and blackcurrant with some homemade compost ,or, later in the autumn spread some of the DIY store type of composted horse manure and let the worms take it down and put some on the raspberries as they will appreciate the feed, mine are all going strong after nearly a decade of this setup..

How far apart are the bushes? Ideally they need to be 5 or 6' apart or the harvest will suffer.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
