  • Finally....

I seem to have finally managed to get photo's on here, courtesy of efficient daughter, so here is a snap of one of the really juicy peaches we grew in the back greenhouse this year, not being a savvy computer user I had to get her advice to finally be able to show results..

I converted the north facing chook run, about 9ft by 15 and put the small trees on the northern side to get maximum light. They are hand pollinated for at least a week in the mornings.i found a very good supplier for the polycarbonate twinwall, cut to size as well. The sun, when it comes out, warms the south side wall and it is a lot warmer than my glasshouse. Roots will be trimmed in winter to restrict the heavy branch growth and get more spurs for fruit. Peach tree was about £3/4 from aldi and the dwarf moorepark apricot was from the range @ £6, so I didn't break the bank...

So impressed! Come down for a holiday and sort something out for me ........I binned my two peach trees...both had peach leaf curl and I was fed up carrying them in and out of the GH.

Mine are in the greenhouse from Xmas onwards but very well aired,so they don't get rained on. when I have trimmed the roots and put them in fresh john Innes no 3 @end of Nov they get a good soak , 2 gal each tub and that's it til I start to hand pollinate in march/April, so they have been drying out and putting out new roots for 3/4 months , kept under cover, essential here, they even produced in a really mediocre summer that we have just had. I tend to let them get fairly dry before watering until the fruit start swelling, then I give a gallon each tub every second day, it helps to keep a record or I would forget and mess up the routine.they get a half strength tom feed once a week from mid may to cropping so they get a bit of a boost and to taste your own fruit where none of the sugar has turned to starch because it has just come off the plant is super....
