  • compost

    Hi all.
I am new to the forum and would like advice please.
I have ordered fruit trees to grow in pots. Pear, Plum, Apple and cherry.
What kind of compost mix is required for the pots?
    Thanks for your time.
    Jim.

you will need to use a john innes No3 compost with these trees, use pots at least 14-16ins across to give roots room to grow and the weight to give stability, mix a handful of bonemeal into the compost to be used in each pot to give the plant a healthy start to their productive life, keep them in a sheltered site as the roots grow all through winter, and into the sun as the weather will start to improve... there is no sweeter fruit than one you have grown correctly yourself, good luck with your trees and if you do get something wrong, as long as they have food and water they will usually grow out of it, be it pruning or maybe siting, we all experiment and it doesn't always work out, just make a note of it and move on. I hope you have years of happy growing ahead of you..
