I know we have had a peculiar year but a month ago the tomatoes seem to be on their way out, we thought they were finished until we had a few weeks yucky weather where it was raining, or I was side tracked by other jobs, so I was quite surprised to go out and find that 3 of the plants had got their second breath, toms gone up one side , I knew that, gone across the roof space, this I knew but they looked to be dying, and now going down the other side and they are covered in fruit, even being cautious, there must be about another 6 - 8lbs ripening nicely, easily enough to fill a washing up bowl, so it has been a very strange year indeed , but nice to be able to finish the greenhouse year on a good note .. SWMBO has said that we will pick and freeze all ripe toms tomorrow, whole, so we can grab a handful as needed, and who am I to disobey?....

It's great that I'm still picking red tomatoes off the vines in the back garden and don't have a greenhouse full of picked green toms waiting to go red.

well, I've only been and gone and found the label, buried near to the main stem , and the type of tomato is F1 Ambrosia, supplied by hortipak.co.uk according to the back of the label, OH has picked a basinful and there is still plenty left so we will be having fresh pasta sauce with all home grown ingredients today or tomorrow, I reckon the slow growth rate is allowing us to get the full flavour of the fruit, even my son in law , who " don't eat veg", was eating them like cherries, ate about a dozen before he realised "he didn't eat veg", and he was looking like he had been caught scrumping, all guilty faced, what a picture..

we filled a basin with the ripe fruit and still 3/4 left ripening, so loads of pasta sauces etc, the tom at the back, it now looks, is going to outcrop the Ambrosia but not such an intense flavour, still I counted 137 greengage sized toms left on that plant..
today I repotted the Spartan and Elstar apples from 14ins tubs into 50ltr (final shift) tubs and put each side of the rear gate,, it looks quite posh now, £3 plants from Aldi, we had 21 and 17 fruit off them this year and they are into fresh John Innes No3 with a handful of bonemeal for each pot, weed control fabric cut to cover soil and chipped bark onto that.. all sorted, just the peach, nectarine and apricot to do when they arrive..
I don't know what is up with the photos as they wont go full sized, so more practice I think..Attached FilesLast edited by BUFFS; 21-09-2016, 04:34 PM.
