Hi FB, I have a vranja quince tree and would like to graft a pear or if possible apple to its few branches. My quince tree is about 9 years old, I planted it 6 years ago.
I just got an allotment and also would like to try other dwarf trees, apple mostly. I live in Kent.
I cannot offer other scions but can cover cost and your effort.
    Cheers

      Hi, Selymbria.

When everything has gone dormant for the winter I'll sort you out some pear scions. Doyenne d'ete sometimes doesn't like being grafted to quince (the graft grows for a few years then inexplicably slowly dies off) so ideally you'll need to graft another pear in between (an interstock).

You'll probably find that apple scions won't like being grafted to quince.

Regarding dwarf trees, at the end of winter a lot of nurseries clear their stock at discount prices and often supermarkets or discount stores have stock of fruit trees for just a few quid. Look for rootstock codes M9 or M26 for allotment use. You could buy a discount tree then re-graft its main branches with various scions.
You could even create family trees by grafting each branch with a different variety.

        Welcome back FB.

Can I tempt you with some tupstones and Christmas pippin, there's sweet 16, frostbite and goldrush in the nursery bed for next year

I feel obligated to offer a good home to a Milton Wonder scion.

Hi Lardman, thanks for the welcome back.
Things have been busy the last few years and the fruit and veg got neglected but now I have more time again and am working on getting the veg plot back into action next year.

Thanks for the offer of Tupstones and Christmas Pearmain/Pippin but - if the books are to be believed - I think they're slightly later season and less sweet than what I'm looking for, but please mention if you disagree with the books because I find they're not particularly accurate for many varieties.
However, I'll happily send you some scions of Milton Wonder (Bernwode) once the tree sheds its leaves for winter, but at the moment it is still in full leaf with not a single yellow leaf in sight!

They're probably a little on the later side of your specs. I really should get a brix meter as everything tastes on the sweet side to me so Im not the best judge... If you can find some, have a look at "brookes apple" which I think fits all your requirements.

I'm currently hunting scions for it as it feels wrong to ask the orchard I where buy apples from for bits of his trees so I wont need to buy his apples

As I said on the other board robinc I've done the pruning for this year. If you can't wait for scions next year, my tree came from walcot's https://walcotnursery.co.uk/ give Kevin a call, he used to sell scion wood.

Hi Robinc, you'll need to have made 50 posts before next year as the Forum has some rules about asking for seeds and plants. 50 posts in 12 months is easy to achieve.

Here are the Forum rules - https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...nce_76437.html

Tell us about your gardening and those posts will soon mount up.
