Autumn Raspberries

When do your autumn raspberries fruit? Mine (which are cut down each year) start in July and go through until Mid/Late October. If they fruited much earlier, I'd be in competition with the Strawberries & Currants and wouldn't be able to eat them all.

Here are my JoanJ's today - with fruit!

I have cut the fruited stems and tied in the unfruited ones and cut them to 5ft, so they put out some side shoots (Joan j)and they start early in July, just as they finish the lopped ones start to fruit and go on until the frosts, we have loads of tubs of them in the freezer and by the amount we get I think it does improve the yield, so with our cooler summers meaning that the fruit grow slower the taste is amazing, the only good thing about our poor summers, been doing this for nearly 10yrs now and see no incentive to change, we are getting loads of fruit for little effort..

Sorry for hijacking your thread...but,

Is it possible to grow decent Autumn raspberries in buckets ?
I was thinking maybe 30/35 litre buckets.

I've got a small back garden, with no real space to dedicate a permanent site for them - I'd like to move them about.

Not sure Kev, although they are shallow rooted they do like to spread horizontally...........Maybe a planting trough may be better.

Tried cutting mine back last week,but still green and hard to cut,the leaves are brown and coming off,so i shall leave them longer,plenty of time yet,the new shewts will start to appear when it warms up next year.

if they are still green stems that could be unfruited ones, I tie these in and let them crop earlier the following season, producing an earlier start to cropping which will finish just as the "fresh" stems start to deliver, so having some green stems to me is a bonus...

Looks like it is possible Kev, although these are summer fruiting.
