OK thank you all for your advice etc. I am 83 so you can make allowances for my daftness. had my heart attack, got a new pacemaker ,now got sepsis . plus a apple tree that thinks its a raspberry . its not all its cracked up to be, this living longer lark. but I will get one thing right ,its nearly Christmas so let me wish all of you a very happy one. thanks again alan

No problem, Alan - its lovely to have you here.
A lot of us are a bit daft - and have problems posting photos - even the young 'uns
Just keep posting and it becomes easier.

Sepsis is potentially life-threatening so I hope you're being properly treated and recovering... and enjoy your next 20+ years of gardening.

My Dad had a James Grieve (spelling prob. wrong) and it was a poor do'er, never thrived, apples often manky, never liked them anyway... Let's just say, it wouldn't be top of my list. His Discovery was lovely, although I don't think they keep very well.
