Hey guys, so things are moving fast on the plot at the moment with regard to fruit, i've been ripping out fruit bushes and raspberries at a rate of knots, I've come across a few unexpected surprises, I have 4 gooseberries with the nursary tags on, 1 Hinnonmaki green, and 3 Hinnonmaki Yellow, anyone got any experience with these? I don't really like cooked fruit and thats the only way i've eaten them, but love fresh fruit so wondered if either is good as a fresh variety?

I've got Hinnomaki yellow. I leave the fruit on the bush to get really ripe & big, then eat raw as a dessert gooseberry. Picked on a warm day, when they're so juicy the split (or almost), they're fragrant & delicious.... yum!Another happy Nutter...

I leave my goosegogs on the plants until they are really ripe and you would not believe how sweet they become, my fruit (home hybrids) are tart when they first look ripe so I cover them with some netting and leave for 3-4 weeks and try one, and I only pick them when they are sweet and juicy, so good luck with them....Comment

Think lots of people pick them to early when they're small and tart (although cooking varieties are less sweet than desert). Also have seen congested bushes with no airflow between stems in poor conditions & not enough sun, & owner saying they don't like gooseberries as they're to sharp!
Treat them well & leave to ripen as long as possible & they reward you....Another happy Nutter...Comment
