  • Blackcurrant Big Bud

Apologies as I know there will be a post about this somewhere but the search function told me my words were too common to be included.

After half a year on raised beds, I've just been offered a plot on the main allotment. I've only seen it in the failing Scottish evening light (off for my first proper visit tomorrow). However it was pointed out to me that one of the currant bushes is a blackcurrant and has big bud.

Can someone tell me what I need to do. Does the whole plant need to come out? Do I need to try and take the roots out as well? Will it be okay left in a bin bag until I have a car to take it to the tip or do I need to move it off site ASAP?

    Thanks for any advice.

It depends how badly the plant's affected. If it's only got a bit you can pick off the infected buds and burn/dispose of away from the plot.

      Thanks for the link.

Seems the entire bush is affected, barely a clean bud on it so I think I'll need to remove the whole thing.

They are fairly shallow-rooted - I took a 35-year old bush up last Feb with not much effort.
