  • blueberry plants and grass

    Hiya
Please could you tell me if it ok to put grass cuttings round the base of blueberry plants
    .thank you

Grass cuttings are fine to put around base of your blueberry plants but avoid the clippings touching the stems of your plants. Remember if your grass cuttings are from a very weedy area you could be introducing weed seeds. Also don't use clippings if they came from an area herbicides have been recently used.

Yes they should be ok Ms_T
Why not make a liquid feed? Put your cuttings in a large bucket or container and add water to cover all. After about three/four days strain the mixture through an old towel. You now have a good liquid feed to use anywhere. The strained clippings can be used as a mulch if needed or put on your compost heap if you have one.

And a good liquid feed too Ms-T. Along with N, P and K are sugars, antioxidants, enzymes, proteins, trace elements, chlorophyll, organic and amino acids...the kind of stuff you don't get from commercial 10-10-10. ' It's everything a growing boy needs.'
It is important the clippings are submerged for several days. Put a brick or some weight on top of them so they steep, otherwise they will rise like a soufflé.

Let it steep for no more than four days and the smell will be ok.

Better the stinking smell of the home made feed than the stinking price of a commercial feed.✌️
