  • Raspberry Yields

    Hello

Would somebody know what these yields mean. They are averaged over 3 years but it doesnt say from how many canes ?

    Thank you for any help

As they don't give the number of canes it can't be used to see average yield per cane but I'm guessing they've used the same number of canes per variety it can be used to compare yield between varieties. You best bet would be to e-mail them and ask how many canes are used per variety. You might not get an answer but it's worth a shot.

        I read this report as:-
It was a single cane averaged over 3 years.

As they give the names of the supplier for a particular variety, it may be easier to enquire with the supplier for any info required.

        Quote:-
The judging criteria were as follows:
 Fruit quality - taste, appearance, size.
Yield - overall weight per plant and weight per variety.
 Plant habit - uprightness, length of laterals and their strength of
attachment, ease of picking, cultivation etc.
         Plant vigour.
         Resistance to disease.
         Duration of fruiting season.

Note:-Having just read VC's post, it makes sense that it was 10 original canes.

So there is in my mind at least, some confusion(nothing new there then) as the references to individual cane weights doesn't appear to exist.

Feed the soil, not the plants.

Would you expect to get 8kgs off one cane a year?
          I agree, its not clear!

Thank you all for the replies, think Ive found a great forum

10 would make the yields sound more like what I have read elsewhere, if allow for the fact they said they saw signs of root rot and had waterlogging on part of the site

I have emailed RHS and will post anything they come back with
