  • Wild Blackberries

    Hi
I've got a hedge running down one side of my allotment and half of it is filled with brambles. Having cut them back they are now fruiting very well and have been a welcome addition to my fruit crop.
However I have noticed that many of the berries have hard seedy bits, looks like a few of the individual berries have dried up. I'm supposing this is insects? But is this after they've been and gone or are they or their eggs still there?

It's often iffy fertilisaton by the insects Sue. You get hard bits where they didn't 'take'.

Ah, thankyou, bit apprehensive re the insect thing, so glad to know it's the fertilisation.
Interesting it's only on the wild ones and not my cultivated one.
