Hi,
I've got a native hedgerow (probably about 30m long, of which 60% is blackthorn). Over the last few years is suffered badly from what I believe is pocket plum , lots of elongated,misshapen and mildewed fruit and not too many sloes. It's also affecting my damson quite badly (same fruit issues), and I think a small peach tree which has red blistered very curly leaves and minimal fruit.
Given the issue of suckers from the blackthorn, I think I'll replace it over the next few years, with some other native (if possible), edible hedging, any recommendations for none suckering varieties that wont also have issues that pass onto my other fruit trees ?
I'mt thinking I cn winter wash (again) the damson and peach in the hope of a better drop next year.
