best dwarf cherry tree

hello all, i would like to add a dwarf cheery tree to my garden, it will be planted in the ground, does anyone have any recommendation on a good dwarf cheery tree, a good one that will produce lots of fruit, but will not grow to big.

The ones advertised are listed as "patio" and kind of imply they are grown in a container which might suggest it is the container that limits its growth somewhat.

Some appear like the Minerette variety from Ken Muir, not sure they are the same however.

Looked at the Ken Muir site and nothing listed, seems that they do not send out until November so have cleared everything and do not list the options they will eventually have. So no information to be gained there. Although I would have considered one of their Minerettes as an option.

If you only have room for one cherry tree and there are none nearby, you'll need one that is self-fertile.

I've thought about this one myself, looked up varieties and come to the conclusion that a proper variety (I'm tending towards sunburst) on Gisella 5 is a better bet than a novelty dwarf variety grown more for size than flavour or cropping. I'm also going for something self fertile even though there are wild cherry trees nearby and I've a carmine jewel bush in the garden. Better safe than sorry really.

Mind you, part of me thinks just get a colt rootstock for its non fussiness and keep it small with the saw.

Why not get a colt root stock with a Gisella 5 inter-stem? Deacons nursery offer this option. Get the benefits of the colt roots and the dwarfing effect from Gisella 5.

As for self fertile varieties, sunburnt, summer Sun, Stella, lapins or stardust (protected variety so no inter-stem) if you want a white cherry and morello if you want a sour. Or a family or duo tree, I offend see Napoleon and van as a duo tree can't get the inter-stem though unless you get some to propagate it for you that way.
