This is my first gooseberry bush and did not no if you had to take the ties of or not.

I don't want the bush to grow to wide so I guess this is done by pruning. I will take the ties off tomorrow.

You need to let it out and the branches will drop into shape. That will guide you on where to prune.

and if it has to be kept in a pot I would double the size of pot you are using now, john innes No3 compost and a feed of BFB in the spring to give it something to feed on, and shape the plant like a goblet to let it grow properly and make picking them easier..

Thank you all for your great advice.

I keep all my fruit Trees and Gooseberry bush in pots as we are hoping to move in the next year or so. We would like to take them with us.

When the gooseberry bush gets to big for the pot I will put it it into something larger. I like the advice about pruning to make it easier to pick. As I found out why carrying the bush home its very sharp.
