It looks suspiciously like my Christmas Pippin apple is about to flower again . I dont think I've seen that before, wonder what impact it will have an next year?
I've just gone and checked the rest of the trees and they're fine so it must just be the xmas pippin. You've grown it longer than I have , do I recall you saying it had slipped into bi-annual fruiting, is this an on or off year for you?
I've lost my entire crop from my self fertile Cox due to the extreme heat for a fortnight/storm/drown for a week/storm/bake for a week cycle. In fairness it was only 2 fruitlets, but it hurts.

Between the frost, the dry, the wet and the pests I currently have 3 apples left as a result each is sitting in it's own organza bag in an attempt to stop the season being a complete failure.

It's an 'on' year, but in the last one it didn't try to keep flowering. I've taken 4/5ths of the fruit off in an attempt to get a decent sized apple and possibly to encourage it to fruit consistently next year, though I was a bit late doing it.
